If UCLA offers you a place on its transfer waitlist, read the university's instructions to confirm how to opt in and the dates for your application year. Before preparing an update, check what information UCLA accepts and where to submit it.
Confirm the Official Submission Channel
The UCLA transfer waitlist instructions, checked on October 22, 2026, allow applicants to provide updates and additional information in the Waitlist Option form. UCLA does not accept or review separately submitted materials, including recommendation letters. The university also states that its waitlist is unranked and does not guarantee admission. When taking action, recheck the website and your own notification.
Describe Developments Since You Applied
For academic updates, explain which courses you have added since applying and how your studies have progressed. Distinguish courses in progress from those you have completed or plan to take. For activities, revisit your saved application and separate new activities, new results from existing activities, and experiences you previously omitted. For each item, identify new responsibilities, completed work, and impact without repeating the original material in different words. Check your records before reporting results and time commitments to avoid exaggeration or repetition.
Explain Why UCLA Fits Your Goals
Research UCLA courses, faculty work, or programs in relation to your academic goals, and explain which resources connect to your interests. Start with the question you want to investigate, then explain how a course or research project relates to it, referring to specific content on a page or in a paper instead of listing names. Express your enrollment intentions honestly, without treating them as a guarantee of admission or a deciding factor confirmed by UCLA.
Finally, organize your additional information within the university's permitted format and length, and check dates against your original application. Submit or edit additional information through the Waitlist Option form before the deadline for your cycle. UCLA currently lists May 15 as the deadline and accepts no further changes afterward. Do not send separate emails or recommendation letters to supplement your waitlist materials. Careful preparation can help you communicate your update, but it cannot guarantee admission from the waitlist or replace UCLA's requirements.
