After submitting a UC transfer application, you still need to complete the Transfer Academic Update, or TAU. Compare your transcripts with your upcoming schedule, then confirm submission so a completed draft does not remain unsubmitted.
Submit Even When Nothing Has Changed
The TAU updates your academic record with final grades from the previous term and courses in progress or planned before enrollment. UC's TAU instructions require all transfer applicants to complete it. You must submit even if your original record was complete and you have no current or planned courses.
Do not use the arrival of a reminder email to decide whether this applies to you. Confirm your entry term and add the TAU to your transfer application schedule, keeping it separate from individual campus requests.
Confirm Your Cycle's Priority Deadline
As checked on October 22, 2026, the priority deadline for fall 2027 applicants is January 31, 2027. Report grades through fall 2026 and coursework in progress or planned through summer 2027. Other entry terms follow different schedules.
A priority deadline is not an invitation to submit late. UC cannot guarantee that campuses can revisit an application after receiving a later update. Aim for one complete, accurate submission before the deadline. Submit another update when necessary, rather than repeatedly sending unchanged information.
Use Transcripts and Your Actual Schedule
Have records from every college available and compare them term by term. Match school names, course numbers, units, terms, and grades to those records. Do not rely on memory or leave out coursework because you think it will not transfer. UC's application instructions also require college attendance during high school.
- Enter actual final grades for completed courses when grades are available.
- Use IP for courses in progress, following the system's instructions.
- Use PL for courses you plan to take but have not started.
- Check the relevant term when you add, drop, or move a course to another college.
IP and PL describe course status; they are not fixed labels for winter and spring. Do not miss the priority deadline while waiting for a course still in progress to finish, and do not report an expected grade as a final grade.
Review the Details Before Submitting
Follow UC's guide for the current transfer cycle when reviewing colleges, courses, minimum-requirement confirmations, and additional information. Use the appropriate comments field to explain unusual circumstances in earlier terms. Name the term and explain the facts without using a comment as a substitute for the course record.
- Check for missing colleges and courses assigned to the wrong institution.
- Look for completed courses that still show an old in-progress status.
- Review entries affected by withdrawals or schedule changes.
- Complete submission and check that the application displays a TAU submission date.
Keep a copy of your entries and confirmation for later reference. Resolve discrepancies against transcripts and schedules before changing an entry.
Report Later Changes
UC directs applicants to update added or dropped courses, grades below C, and enrollment at a new college. After an offer of admission, confirm that the campus admission office knows about relevant grade or schedule changes.
Reporting a summer plan does not extend the admission requirements into summer. Under UC's junior-transfer requirements, applicants for fall entry must finish the seven-course pattern and required transferable units by the end of the preceding spring. Recheck completion dates through your transfer course plan when your schedule changes. Continue monitoring your application email and campus notices. Follow the stated channel and deadline for any separate request for materials.
